Library Sciences Students Won the 1st Champion in the 12th Annual of Communication Days 2017

Team from UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta chaired by Suwanto, with members of Miska Fitriana and Dian Septiani, all of whom are students of Library Studies, Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences succeeded in becoming the first winner in the championship of "12th Annual of Communication Days 2017"

Interviewed in his campus, Faculty of Adab and Culture Sciences, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Suwanto, explained that the 12th Annual of Communication Days (Commdays) was held for three days, 6-9 November 2017 and is an annual event held by BEM Faculty of Communication Studies University of Budi Luhur Jakarta under the theme "Communication in the Digital Era (CODE)". One of the series of events is a national scientific paper contest for university students all over Indonesia.

The scientific paper contest is held as an effort to implement creative and innovative thoughts in communication sciences. The event was followed by at least 50 contestants from universities in Indonesia. At the first selection, the committee eliminate 30 papers, then the rest 20 participants were invited to grand final at November 7, 2017. The teams who were invited to grand final were 3 teams from Gadjah Mada University, 4 teams from Telkom University, 2 teams from Budi Luhur University, Airlangga University, Institute Technology Sepuluh November, Brawijaya University, Semarang State University, Hasanudin University, UIN Malang, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, IAIN Palangkaraya, and Pembangunan Jaya University.

Team from UIN Sunan kalijaga wrote their paper on “Smart-Library For Student with Blind Disability to Foster Independent Learning in Cyber-Information Era”. The paper explains smart library design which is complete with technology and information communication facilities such as Digital Talking Book player (DTB), Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) adaptive, Multy Purpose Station (MPS) adaptive and learning media prototipe based on multiple representation for the blind using JAWS Screen Reader.

After a series of review by 7 jurists, the team from UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta won the competition and become the 1st champion, followed by Team from Institute Technology Sepuluh November Surabaya as the runner up, team from Telkom University Bandung as the 2nd runner up, Budi Luhur University as the 3rd runner up, and Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta as the 4th runner up. The championship gives a point to UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta students to be more active in national and international.(siti hidayah)
