YOGYAKARTA, Indonesia — UIN Sunan Kalijaga said its master’s and doctoral
programs are structured to emphasize academic rigor, methodological training,
and research integrity, as higher education institutions navigate technological
change and increasing expectations for research quality.
The university conveyed the message during the
orientation for new postgraduate students for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Rector Noorhaidi Hasan said postgraduate
students are expected to engage with existing scholarship and situate their
research within broader academic discussions at national and international
levels.
“At the graduate level, students need to
understand the intellectual context of their field, including ongoing debates
and recent research developments,” he said, noting that familiarity with prior
studies is essential for positioning new research.
He added that theses and dissertations are
encouraged to be designed with academic publication in mind, supporting broader
dissemination and scholarly engagement.
Noorhaidi also noted that the growing use of
digital tools, including artificial intelligence, requires careful
consideration to ensure that analytical skills and research processes remain
central to academic work.
Graduate School Director Moch. Nur Ichwan said
innovation has become an important factor in higher education as changes in
technology influence research practices and professional pathways.
He described postgraduate study as a
transitional stage that involves increased responsibility for research quality
and ethical conduct, particularly in public universities.
“Research forms the basis of teaching,
publication, and community engagement,” Ichwan said.
As a new cohort begins its postgraduate
studies, the university said the focus remains on developing research capacity
and producing work that contributes to academic discussions beyond the
institutional setting.
