YOGYAKARTA — UIN Sunan Kalijaga is mourning the passing of Prof. Dr. Maizer
Said Nahdi, a key figure and founding architect of its Faculty of Science and
Technology, who died on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
A respected academic who had served the
university since the 1980s, Maizer played a pivotal role in shaping the
institution’s scientific vision by integrating modern science with Islamic
intellectual traditions—an approach that laid the foundation for one of the
university’s fastest-growing faculties.
Rector Noorhaidi Hasan expressed deep
condolences, describing her as a guiding force behind the university’s
transformation from an institute into a comprehensive university.
“She was a light in our academic journey. Her
vision and perseverance built a foundation that continues to grow and inspire,”
he said.
He added that her early efforts in advancing
scientific disciplines have also paved the way for future developments,
including the university’s ongoing plans to establish a medical faculty.
Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology
Khurul Wardati paid tribute to Maizer not only as a founder, but as a guardian
of academic values rooted in integrity and dedication. She recalled the late
professor’s enduring message: “Continue to plant knowledge, for it will grow into
a tree that shelters future generations.”
Though she has passed away, Maizer’s legacy
lives on—in classrooms, in the spirit of academic inquiry, and in the enduring
commitment to knowledge she helped instill.
