The commemoration of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta's 75-year journey became a moment to strengthen the university's bond with the community surrounding the development of its Campus II. Through a social service activity, UIN Suka distributed assistance to 200 residents in the Pajangan area, Bantul, on Friday (10/2/2026).
Held at UIN Sunan Kalijaga's Campus II in
Pajangan, Bantul, the event formed part of the series marking UIN Sunan
Kalijaga's 75th Anniversary (Dies Natalis), as well as a concrete expression of
the Tridharma (Three Pillars) of Higher Education, particularly community
service.
Head of the Bureau of Academic Administration,
Student Affairs, and Cooperation (AAKK) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Dr. Muhammad Luthfi Hamid, said
the social service activity reflects a sense of gratitude for UIN Sunan
Kalijaga's journey and its various achievements. In recent years, UIN Sunan
Kalijaga has continued expanding its academic capacity, both through
strengthening existing study programs and developing new academic fields.
According to him, the academic achievements and
rankings attained by UIN Sunan Kalijaga are part of the institution's ongoing
journey to keep growing and to deliver broader contribution. The development of
new study programs, including in medicine, health, and professional psychology,
is part of the dynamic growth propelling UIN Sunan Kalijaga toward becoming a
university increasingly relevant to society's needs.
Within the context of Campus II's development,
the activity held in Pajangan is also understood as an initial step toward
building a good relationship with the surrounding community. Support from, and
closeness with, local residents is an important part of ensuring that the
campus's presence can grow in harmony with its environment and community going
forward.
“Pager
mangkok” (literally, “bowl fence”, a Javanese expression for neighborly
goodwill) was emphasized as one of the values underlying this activity:
building kindness, maintaining ties, and fostering harmonious relations with
the surrounding community. Through good relations, UIN's presence in Pajangan
is hoped to bring real benefit to the community while also supporting the
smooth progress of Campus II's development.
Representative of Guwosari Village, Suharto,
welcomed the social service activity warmly. He expressed appreciation for UIN
Sunan Kalijaga's attentiveness toward the community surrounding Campus II.
According to him, the activity served not only as
a space for sharing, but also strengthened ties between UIN Sunan Kalijaga and
the community leaders and residents who have long lived around the Campus II
development area. He expressed hope that the presence of UIN Sunan Kalijaga's
Campus II in Guwosari would eventually bring broader positive impact.
Deputy Chair I of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan
(DWP, Civil Servants' Wives Association) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Ny.
Sulastri Rozaki, said the social service activity is one expression of
gratitude in commemorating UIN Sunan Kalijaga's 75th Anniversary. The activity
also served as a space to strengthen bonds between the extended UIN Sunan
Kalijaga family and the community around Campus II.
According to her, the people of Pajangan are an
important part of the environment that will grow alongside the presence of UIN
Sunan Kalijaga's Campus II. For that reason, UIN Suka's presence within the
community is expressed not only through physical construction, but also through
genuine care and good social relationships.
On this occasion, Ny. Sulastri also asked for the
community's prayers and support for the development process of UIN Sunan
Kalijaga's Campus II. She expressed hope that the campus's presence would
eventually bring broader benefit to the surrounding community.
Meanwhile, Head of the Public Relations Team at
UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Dra. RTM Maharani, M.M., who attended as a
representative of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, affirmed that the social service activity
forms part of the effort to build closeness between the institution and the
community around Campus II.
She said UIN Sunan Kalijaga's presence in
Pajangan is hoped to grow harmoniously alongside the community. For that
reason, support, prayers, and good relations with local residents are an
important part of the journey toward developing Campus II.
Further, she expressed hope that UIN Sunan
Kalijaga's Campus II would, in time, become not only a space for delivering
education, but also a driver of growth for the surrounding area. The presence
of the campus, she said, is hoped to open up space for various activities that
bring social and economic benefit to the people of Pajangan and Bantul Regency
more broadly.
As part of the series of activities, UIN Sunan
Kalijaga then presented assistance, or “tanda
tresna” (a token of affection), to 200 residents of Pajangan. This gesture
served as a symbol of care as well as an expression of UIN Suka's gratitude on
the occasion of its 75th Anniversary. (humassk)
