UIN Sunan Kalijaga Students Win Constitutional Court Case: University Responds with Strong Support and Recognition

Four students from UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta’s Faculty of Sharia and Law—Enika Maya Oktavia, Tsalis Khoirul Fatna, Faisal Nasirul Haq, and Rizki Maulana Syafei—made history by successfully challenging Indonesia's Election Law Article 222 on the presidential threshold in the Constitutional Court. This landmark victory has reshaped the legal landscape while showcasing the university’s commitment to academic excellence grounded in integrity and critical thinking.

The university responded with high praise during a recognition event led by Rector Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan on January 15, 2025. He lauded the students for applying academic knowledge to real-world constitutional challenges, emphasizing that the achievement reflects the quality of education at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. Prof. Noorhaidi also clarified that the university had no political agenda supporting the case, stating, “The focus is on empowering students to apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. The existence of the Constitutional Studies Community within the Faculty of Sharia and Law has provided an excellent platform for students to hone their skills in tackling real-world cases at the Constitutional Court.”

Vice-Rector Dr. Mochamad Sodik described the victory as a "remarkable New Year’s gift," highlighting the university's role in shaping future leaders who contribute meaningfully to society.

To honor the students, the university awarded each a certificate and a cash prize of five million rupiah. This milestone elevates UIN Sunan Kalijaga's reputation as a leading Islamic institution and inspires its students to innovate and contribute to societal progress.
