UIN Sunan Kalijaga Gears Up for Faculty of Medicine, Learning from UIN Walisongo’s Regenerative Medicine Model

Semarang, January 16, 2025 – UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta is taking bold strides toward launching its Faculty of Medicine in 2025, with a delegation led by Rector Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan visiting UIN Walisongo Semarang for a benchmarking study. The visit focused on understanding the distinctive strategies behind UIN Walisongo’s successful Faculty of Medicine, which is renowned for its specialization in regenerative medicine.

The delegation, which included vice rectors, deans, and other senior academic leaders, was warmly received by UIN Walisongo’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Nizar Ali, alongside his team. A pivotal session during the visit was a detailed presentation by Dr. Sugeng Ibrahim, M.Biomed, Dean of UIN Walisongo’s Faculty of Medicine. This approach aligns cutting-edge science with global healthcare needs, positioning UIN Walisongo as a leader in innovative medical education.

During the visit, UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s team observed key facilities, including laboratories for anatomy and microbiology, to gain insight into operational standards and educational quality. These observations are expected to inform UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s development of its medical school infrastructure and academic programs.

With more than 24,000 students and 72.2% of its programs holding top-tier accreditation, UIN Sunan Kalijaga is committed to expanding its academic offerings while maintaining its integrative and interconnective approach to knowledge. The university aims to bridge Islamic values with scientific advancements, reflecting its vision of “Empowering Knowledge, Shaping the Future.”

The planned Faculty of Medicine will be a vital addition to UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s academic portfolio, addressing the growing demand for qualified healthcare professionals in Indonesia. To ensure success, the university plans to recruit medical experts with advanced qualifications, including specialists and educators with expertise in medical pedagogy.

“This visit to UIN Walisongo has been immensely valuable in shaping our vision for the Faculty of Medicine. We are committed to integrating Islamic values with innovative medical education to produce healthcare professionals who contribute to society and advance the field of medicine,” said Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan.
