UIN Sunan Kalijaga Earns 3.5 Trees Rating from UI GreenMetric, Signaling Strong Commitment to Sustainability

Yogyakarta — UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta has secured a 3.5 out of 5 Trees Rating from UI GreenMetric, a global university sustainability ranking system initiated by Universitas Indonesia. The achievement reflects the university’s growing commitment to environmental stewardship and data-driven sustainability practices across its academic and operational ecosystem.

Released on 6 November 2025, the assessment followed a comprehensive evaluation based on UI GreenMetric’s six core indicators: infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water conservation, transportation, and education and research. The Trees Rating certificate—valid for one year—was awarded after assessors reviewed institutional data, programs, and strategic achievements related to sustainability efforts.

Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Prof. Noorhaidi, welcomed the recognition and emphasized that sustainability is a key strategic foundation of the university’s future development. “This acknowledgment shows that UIN Sunan Kalijaga is not only committed to academic excellence but also to building a campus that is environmentally conscious and responsible. It is part of our pledge to create an educational ecosystem aligned with sustainability principles,” he said.

Chair of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), Dr. Abdul Qoyum, S.E.I., M.Sc.Fin., noted that the achievement reflects strong collaboration and consistent data management across university units. “This 3.5 Trees Rating is not merely a number—it is evidence that our collective efforts in planning, reporting, and implementing green initiatives are starting to bear fruit. It motivates us to continue improving the quality of environmental governance in the years ahead,” he stated.

The accomplishment also aligns with UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s broader vision to strengthen its role in sustainability, especially as it develops its second campus in Pajangan, Bantul, under the Forest Campus concept—an initiative focused on environmental harmony, conservation, and community empowerment.

The recognition is expected to strengthen UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s position within the national sustainable campus landscape, while also encouraging wider collaboration with global green campus networks. As sustainability becomes increasingly urgent in higher education, this Trees Rating serves as a significant milestone—and a challenge—for UIN Sunan Kalijaga to advance even further.
