UIN Sunan Kalijaga Wins Multiple Honors at Diktis Awards 2026, Strengthening Global Academic Standing

UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta has strengthened its global academic standing after winning multiple honors at the Diktis Awards 2026 in Surabaya on April 3.

The university ranked second in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, while securing first place in Religious Studies and second place in Law under the Scimago Institutions Ranking (SIR).

The results mark a notable step for Indonesia’s Islamic higher education sector, positioning State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN) more prominently in global rankings.

Rector Noorhaidi Hasan said the recognition reflects sustained improvements in research output and academic quality.

“This achievement reflects the collective work of our academic community and strengthens our global credibility,” he said.

He added that international rankings are becoming increasingly important benchmarks in a competitive higher education landscape, shaping global perception, partnerships, and research collaboration.

University officials say the gains are driven by a more coordinated research strategy under its Institute for Research and Community Engagement (LPPM), alongside efforts to boost high-impact publications and interdisciplinary work.

The university has also aligned its academic performance with global indicators, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as part of a broader push to expand international engagement.

Faculty and students have played a central role, contributing to publications, collaborative research, and community-based programs linked to real-world challenges.

“It opens doors to stronger global partnerships and wider academic recognition,” Noorhaidi said.

The Diktis Awards, organized by Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs, recognize top-performing Islamic higher education institutions across the country.

For UIN Sunan Kalijaga, the latest accolades signal growing international visibility—and a push to compete more assertively on the global academic stage.
