Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia
has firmly denied viral claims suggesting the government plans to take control
of mosque funds, calling the information “false” and misleading.
Speaking in Jakarta, Thobib Al Asyhar, Head of Public Relations and
Communication at the ministry, emphasized that no such policy has ever been
proposed or discussed.
“The Ministry of Religious Affairs has never
issued any policy or plan to take over the management of mosque funds,” he
said.
The clarification comes after social media
posts—featuring an image of Minister Nasaruddin
Umar alongside claims about government-managed mosque
accounts—circulated widely online.
According to Thobib, the content is a form of
deliberate disinformation designed to create public unrest.
“The minister has never made any statement
about government-controlled mosque accounts, as framed in the viral content,”
he added.
He reaffirmed that mosque finances remain
fully under the authority of local mosque management bodies, commonly known as
Dewan Kemakmuran Masjid (DKM), which operate based on community trust and
independence.
Rather than intervening, the ministry
continues to encourage professional, transparent, and accountable management of
mosque funds at the community level.
The ministry also urged the public to remain
cautious when consuming information online and to verify claims through
official government channels.
“Be wise in receiving information. Always
confirm its accuracy through the ministry’s official website and verified
social media accounts,” Thobib said.
