A total of 68 Civil Servant Candidates (CPNS) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta took part in a second tree-planting initiative at the university’s Campus II in Pajangan, Bantul, on Wednesday (6/5/2026), reinforcing their commitment to environmental sustainability.
The program marked the second phase of tree planting carried out by the CPNS participants as an expression of gratitude for their appointment as civil servants. Beyond that, the initiative also reflected the practical implementation of ecotheology values, an approach that integrates religious teachings with environmental responsibility.
The event was carried out with great enthusiasm. In addition to planting new trees, participants revisited the trees they had planted the previous year. Akmal Ihsan, a postgraduate lecturer candidate, said he was pleased to see the tree he planted in 2025 growing well.
“It is meaningful to witness how a small contribution can create a real impact,” he said, describing the program as part of the ecotheology movement promoted by Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs under Minister Prof. Dr. Nasaruddin Umar.
A similar view was shared by Azam Robani. According to him, ecotheology is no longer merely a discourse, but has been translated into tangible action with direct impact.
“This is not just a ceremonial activity, but a shared commitment to caring for the earth as part of religious values,” he stated.
Through initiatives like this, the Ministry of Religious Affairs encourages civil servants to take an active role in environmental preservation, positioning care for nature as part of moral and spiritual responsibility. (humassk)
