The Student Choir (Paduan Suara Mahasiswa/PSM) Gita Savana of UIN Sunan Kalijaga once again held its annual concert, titled Concerto XIX0–Evarielle, on Saturday (20/6/2026) at the Auditorium of the Yogyakarta Music High School (Sekolah Menengah Musik Yogyakarta). The concert served as the debut stage for prospective new members of PSM Gita Savana, while also marking another milestone in the organization's decades-long tradition of regeneration.
Carrying the theme Evarielle, the concert evoked the
meaning of homecoming and self-acceptance, portrayed as a place of warmth to
which one returns after a long and storied journey. Through the sequence of
songs performed, audiences were invited to experience harmonies that were at
once soothing and deeply moving.
PSM Gita Savana Chairperson Ismed Harahap explained
that Evarielle
serves as a symbol of the journey toward self-discovery and acceptance.
"Evarielle teaches us that wholeness does not come from
perfection, but from the courage to accept oneself as we are. For our new
members, this is an important moment to build self-confidence and find their
musical home within PSM Gita Savana," he said.
Throughout the concert, the performers delivered a
diverse repertoire of both international and Indonesian works, including Exultate
Justi by Ludovico da Viadana, As Long As I Have Music arranged by
Don Besig and Nancy Price, Ride the Morning Winds arranged by Grace
Hawthorne and Tom Fettke, Kisah Mawardi Malam Hari by E. Zainudin
arranged by Mochtar Embut, Zikr by A.R. Rahman arranged by Ethan
Sperry, and Dies Irae by Michael John Trotta.
Audiences were also treated to Renungan by
Erros Djarot and Doddy Sukasah, Time to Say Goodbye (Con Te Partirò)
popularised by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli, A Clare Benediction
by John Rutter, Anging Mamiri arranged by Budi Susanto Yohanes, and Janger
arranged by Agustinus Bambang Jusana and Avip Priatna.
The concert was directed by Mochammad Nur Arifin,
S.H.I., S.Sn., widely known by his nickname Mas Iphink, an artist and cultural
arts lecturer with extensive experience as a choir trainer and conductor.
Concerto XIX brought together hundreds of students in a
full four-part formation of soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. The presence of new
members symbolized both organizational regeneration and the enduring spirit of
continuity that PSM Gita Savana has long upheld.
Behind the success of the concert lies a lengthy and
intensive rehearsal process. The performers underwent regular practice sessions
at the Student Centre and Greenhouse of UIN Sunan Kalijaga on nearly every
afternoon from early 2026 through to the eve of the performance.
Beyond honing their vocal and musical abilities,
members also strengthened their confidence in performing before a public
audience through a series of shows at various locations across Yogyakarta,
activities that simultaneously served as fundraising efforts to support the
concert's production.
Public enthusiasm was evident from the full house at
the SMM Yogyakarta Auditorium on the night of the performance, with audiences
expressing their appreciation for both the quality of the performances and the
dedication of students who had spent months in preparation.
As the closing of the event, Prof. Badrun Alaena, in
his capacity as Advisor of PSM Gita Savana, presented awards to the concert's
production committee in recognition of their hard work in making the event a
resounding success.
Through Concerto XIX–Evarielle, PSM Gita Savana once again demonstrated its
consistency in delivering high-quality musical works, while also opening the
door for a new generation of choral singers ready to carry forward the
tradition of artistic excellence at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. (humassk)
