UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta has once again recorded a notable achievement in the July 2026 edition of the Webometrics rankings. UIN Sunan Kalijaga successfully retained its status as the top-ranked State Islamic Religious Higher Education Institution (PTKIN) in Indonesia, while also improving its position to 22nd among the best universities in Indonesia and 1,115th worldwide.
This achievement places UIN Sunan Kalijaga as the
highest-performing PTKIN among Indonesia's state Islamic universities.
Following behind it are UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung (24th nationally), UIN
Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta (41st), and UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang
(48th).
This result also reflects a consistent upward
trend. In the July 2025 Webometrics rankings, UIN Sunan Kalijaga ranked 27th
nationally, 1st among PTKINs, and 2,073rd worldwide. One year later, the
university improved its position by climbing five places nationally and jumping
958 places globally, all while maintaining its status as Indonesia's number-one
PTKIN.
Webometrics is a global university ranking system
published by the Cybermetrics Lab of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones
Científicas (CSIC), Spain. The ranking evaluates university performance based
on indicators of Visibility, Openness, Excellence, and Impact, reflecting digital
visibility, openness of scholarly access, publication quality, and an
institution's academic influence at the global level.
Head of the Institute for Research and Community
Service (LPPM) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Abdul Qoyum, S.E.I., M.Sc.Fin., said the
improved ranking reflects the increasingly strong academic ecosystem and
scholarly culture that has been built sustainably at UIN Sunan Kalijaga.
“UIN Sunan Kalijaga's ranking reflects an
outstanding academic and scholarly climate. We must continue building on this
achievement until we are able to break into the Top 10 universities in
Indonesia. We hope that goal can be realized one day,” said Abdul Qoyum.
He noted that successfully maintaining the
position of top PTKIN while also improving national and global rankings serves
as motivation for the entire academic community to continue strengthening the
quality of the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (the Three Pillars of Higher
Education). Strengthening research culture, improving the quality of
internationally reputable scientific publications, pursuing global
collaboration, and optimizing the visibility of scholarly work through digital
platforms will remain key priorities for the institution's development going
forward.
This achievement further underscores UIN Sunan
Kalijaga's consistency in strengthening the competitiveness of Indonesian
higher education at the international level. With an upward trend continuing
year after year, UIN Sunan Kalijaga remains optimistic about achieving its goal
of ranking among the top 10 universities in Indonesia, in line with its
commitment to delivering excellent, high-impact higher education, research, and
community service. (humassk)
