UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta reinforced its commitment to building a disaster-resilient campus by hosting the training "Community Emergency Response Partnership: Skills for Safety, Neighbors for Each Other," held at the Theatrical Room of UIN Sunan Kalijaga's Language Center on Monday, August 3. The event forms part of the university's efforts to build the capacity of its faculty and staff in handling emergency situations, both on campus and within the wider community.

As host of the training, UIN Sunan Kalijaga involved representatives from all faculties and work units, each sending two participants, with the aim of building an internal network capable of driving a culture of preparedness across the university.

The training was organized by LAZISNU in partnership with the Shenzhen Rescue Volunteer Federation (SRVF), also known as the Shenzhen Public Rescue Team, a nonprofit organization made up of professional rescue volunteers from Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China. This international collaboration brought experience and best practices in emergency response, from initial response and disaster coordination to strengthening the community's role in creating a safe and resilient environment.

The activity's coordinator, Hj. Dewi Rahmawati, explained that the training was designed to build human resources capable of serving as the first line of response in emergency conditions.

“The goal of this activity is simple but very important: to build human resources who are ready to respond first, who are quick, coordinated, and who carry a spirit of humanity, whether at the level of the individual, the family, or the community. This training doesn't just teach technical skills; it also builds preparedness grounded in Islamic values of being a mercy to the universe (rahmatan lil 'alamin),” she said.

During the training, participants received instruction on the principles of community emergency response, initial handling of emergency situations, communication and coordination during disasters, and strengthening community-based volunteer networks. These competencies are expected to be passed on to the academic community within each participant's work unit, allowing a culture of emergency preparedness to grow sustainably across UIN Sunan Kalijaga.

For UIN Sunan Kalijaga, this training reflects a broader effort to strengthen the role of the university, one that focuses not only on academic development, but also on building humanitarian capacity and institutional resilience. By enhancing the competency of its faculty and staff, UIN Sunan Kalijaga seeks to build a campus ecosystem better prepared to face various disaster risks while also delivering real contributions to the community in times of emergency.

The participation of all faculties and units in this training also reflects UIN Sunan Kalijaga's commitment to integrating social awareness, disaster mitigation, and community service into its campus work culture. In doing so, UIN Sunan Kalijaga aims not only to produce academically excellent graduates, but also to cultivate a resilient, adaptive academic community with a strong spirit of humanity in facing future challenges.
