The Student Association of the Islamic Economic Law Study Program (HMPS HES) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta strengthened its inter-campus network through a comparative study with five other HES student associations in Semarang on Monday, October 26, 2026. The meeting was a space to share experience in managing organizations and to explore ideas for developing activities that are more useful to students.
For HMPS HES UIN Sunan Kalijaga, the exchange offered a chance to learn how other organizations draw up work programs, handle internal problems, and build collaboration. Experience from other campuses can inform improvements in governance and the design of activities that fit students' needs.
Daniel Moestofa, Vice Chair of HMPS HES UIN Sunan Kalijaga, explained that taking part in the forum grew out of a wish to strengthen ties among HES students and widen the space for learning together.
“This meeting aims to strengthen friendship (silaturahmi) among HES students while opening space to exchange knowledge and organizational experience. Through learning from one another, we hope ideas and innovations will emerge that we can develop together to meet HES students' needs and bring real benefits,” he said.
Held under the theme “Connections, Cultivating Growth, Accelerating Excellence” at UIN Walisongo Semarang, the event brought together six student associations from public and private universities in Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Besides UIN Sunan Kalijaga and the host campus, participants came from UIN Salatiga, UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan, UIN Prof. K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto, and Universitas Wahid Hasyim Semarang.
Daniel said participation grew compared with the previous meeting, which involved three associations. Having six organizations brought more perspectives on the dynamics and needs of HES students at each campus.
According to Daniel, the diversity of experience across organizations is a source of learning for strengthening association governance. Problems other organizations have faced, and how they solved them, can serve as material for reflection as officers decide on steps that suit their own campuses.
Through the forum, HMPS HES UIN Sunan Kalijaga hopes inter-campus ties will continue through mutual support in organizing events, exchanging ideas, and helping develop student programs. The network formed is expected to make communication easier when each association needs a collaboration partner.
“We hope that after this comparative study, new ideas that are more useful and impactful will emerge. The bond among HES students as a family will also grow closer so that we can help and support one another,” Daniel said.
The event was opened by Muhammad Harun, Vice Dean III for Student Affairs and Cooperation of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at UIN Walisongo. In his remarks, he stressed the importance of networking and organizational independence as provisions for students to take roles in the public sphere and the professional world.
For HES students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, the value of the meeting lies in how experience from other campuses can be turned into improvements in their own organization. The ideas they bring home can serve as a basis for more relevant programs, wider student involvement, and keeping inter-campus cooperation going. (humassk)
