Scopus Recognizes UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s Research Excellence: Al-Mazaahib Marks the Latest Milestone

Yogyakarta — Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga has strengthened its international standing with a new achievement: the inclusion of Al-Mazaahib: Journal of Comparative Law in Scopus, the world’s most prestigious database of peer-reviewed research. This milestone not only elevates the journal itself but also reinforces UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s role as a leading academic institution integrating Islamic scholarship with global knowledge systems.

For UIN Sunan Kalijaga, journal recognition is more than an accolade—it is an endorsement of its intellectual vision. Rector Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan underscored the broader significance of this development.
“The indexing of Al-Mazaahib in Scopus demonstrates our ability to produce research of international relevance. It affirms that our academic community is not just participating in global conversations but helping to shape them,” he said.

Within the Faculty of Sharia and Law, the achievement is seen as a direct outcome of a long-term internationalization strategy. Dean Prof. Dr. Ali Sodiqin, M.Ag., framed the success in symbolic terms.
“Academic journals embody the intellectual strength of an institution. When a journal enters Scopus, it signals that recognition has crossed national borders. With Al-Ahwal and now Al-Mazaahib, our faculty is the only one at UIN Sunan Kalijaga with two Scopus-indexed journals. And this is only the beginning—we are preparing another journal for global recognition,” he explained.

Editorial leadership also credits collective effort for the achievement. Nurdhin Baroroh, S.H.I., M.Si., Editor-in-Chief of Al-Mazaahib, emphasized the collaborative nature of the journey.
“This success is the product of teamwork, from university leadership to the faculty and the editorial board. I am deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to bringing Al-Mazaahib to this point,” she noted.

Al-Mazaahib now joins a distinguished group of Scopus-recognized journals at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, including Al-Jami‘ah: Journal of Islamic Studies, Jurnal Studi Ilmu-ilmu Al-Qur’an dan Hadis, Al-Ahwal: Journal of Islamic Family Law, and Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam. Together, they testify to the university’s ability to consistently produce scholarship of global significance.

This recognition aligns with the university’s broader Research and Community Service Roadmap 2025–2030, which sets out an ambitious plan to expand international collaborations and enhance the global visibility of Indonesian Islamic scholarship.

By securing Scopus recognition for Al-Mazaahib, UIN Sunan Kalijaga is not only celebrating an academic milestone but also reaffirming its commitment to advancing Islamic thought within the wider landscape of global research. (humassk)
