UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta and the Government of India have strengthened
their academic and cultural ties with the launch of the Indian Corner at
the university’s Central Library. The initiative marks a new era of
collaboration in education, culture, and community wellness between Indonesia
and India.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library, was attended by Mr. Kamal Khurana, Second Secretary/PPS to DCM and Director of the Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Cultural Centre (JNICC), along with Prof. Dr. Istiningsih, M.Pd., Vice Rector I, and Dr. Tafrikhuddin, S.Ag., M.Pd., Head of the University Library.
Mr. Khurana emphasized that the Indian Corner represents more than a
cultural display; it is a living space for academic dialogue, language
learning, and intercultural exchange.
“India and Indonesia share deep historical and
cultural bonds. The Indian Corner will serve as a bridge to foster mutual
understanding through education and culture,” he said.
The collaboration includes plans for Hindi language
courses, yoga sessions, and art workshops, transforming the
university library into a hub for cultural and community engagement.
According to Prof. Istiningsih,
this partnership reinforces UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s mission to integrate
Islamic values with global knowledge.
“This initiative shows that our campus is not
only an academic space but also a meeting point of civilizations,” she
affirmed.
The Indian
Corner stands as a symbol of soft diplomacy in higher education,
reflecting a shared vision between UIN Sunan Kalijaga and India to promote peace,
knowledge, and cultural understanding across nations.
