UIN Sunan Kalijaga Strengthens Global Scholarship Pathways through Strategic LPDP Engagement

In an era where global academic mobility increasingly shapes university reputation and graduate outcomes, scholarships have become a strategic instrument rather than a peripheral opportunity. At Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University (UIN Sunan Kalijaga) Yogyakarta, access to prestigious international scholarships is being systematically embedded into the university’s student development ecosystem.

This commitment was reflected in a scholarship socialisation session hosted in collaboration with the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), held at the university’s Convention Hall on Friday, 6 February 2026. The event provided hundreds of students with a comprehensive overview of pathways to one of Indonesia’s most competitive government-funded scholarship schemes.

The Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rozaki, emphasised that scholarships should be understood not merely as financial assistance, but as instruments of social and academic transformation. He noted that pursuing higher education through scholarships requires preparation, including language proficiency, academic writing skills, and global readiness, all of which are supported by a strong institutional ecosystem at UIN Sunan Kalijaga.

During the session, Agam Bayu Suryanto, Head of Cooperation and Scholarship Development at LPDP, outlined key updates to the LPDP application mechanism effective from 2026. Applicants are now required to apply through the LPDP platform before selecting their academic cluster, either STEM or SHARE, followed by their intended host university and programme.

A major innovation highlighted was LPDP’s co-funding scholarship scheme, developed in partnership with several countries, including the Netherlands and France, as well as leading global universities such as the National University of Singapore, Tsinghua University, and the University of Dundee. According to Agam, this partnership model not only broadens destination choices but also strengthens international academic networks for Indonesian scholars.

The programme reaffirmed UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s position as a university actively cultivating strategic partnerships with national and global scholarship providers. Through language training, academic writing support, and structured guidance for postgraduate study, the university prepares students not only to pass selection processes, but to compete confidently on the global academic stage.

For the students in attendance, the message was clear: pathways to world-class education are increasingly accessible, and UIN Sunan Kalijaga stands ready as a committed partner in their global academic journey.
