The spirit of achievement continues to grow among students of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Throughout August 2026, the UIN Sunan Kalijaga contingent has undergone intensive training in preparation for the Sports, Arts, and Scientific Week of State Islamic Religious Higher Education Institutions across Java and Madura (PORSI JAWARA) II 2026, to be held at UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan this coming September.

A total of 100 students competing across 25 categories are being prepared with guidance from lecturers, alumni, and professional coaches. Training sessions are held across various campus facilities, ranging from the Sport Center and Student Center to faculty rooms, as well as online.

For UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, preparation for PORSI JAWARA is not solely oriented toward competition. This process is part of the campus's commitment to developing students' full potential, in sports, the arts, and academics alike.

“This training is important not only to prepare the technical aspects of competition, but also the athletes' mentality and spirit. We pay attention to both technical and non-technical matters,” said Muhammad Mahyudin, Head of the Student Affairs Team at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, on Monday (8/31/2026).

The diversity of categories being contested reflects the breadth of talent development opportunities at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. The sports categories being prepared include futsal, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, karate, pencak silat, taekwondo, wall climbing, and chess. In the arts and religious categories, there are Islamic pop solo singing, MHQ (Quran memorization competition), MTQ (Quran recitation competition), MSQ (Quran interpretation competition), MFQ (Quran discussion competition), and calligraphy. Meanwhile, the scientific and academic categories cover English and Arabic debate, constitutional debate, moot court, business plan, scientific paper writing (LKTI), learning media innovation, da'i (Islamic preaching), and short film.

These preparations also demonstrate the strength of the student development ecosystem at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. A number of alumni have returned to campus to share their experience and mentor the students who will be competing.

The Head of the Constitutional Study Community (KPK) at the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Aziz Abdullah, said the constitutional debate team is not only refining its material and motions, but also receiving guidance from alumni and lecturers.

“In addition to strengthening our command of the material and debate motions, alumni are also passing on their competitive mindset. FSH lecturers have also provided input and support,” he said on Thursday (8/27/2026).

A similar approach has been taken in the English debate category. Arya Putra Bagaskara, an alumnus of the Student Activity Unit (UKM) for Foreign Language Study and Development (SPBA), has been mentoring students through both in-person and online training sessions.

“In terms of material, it's sufficient; what's left is sharing English Debate experience and building mental readiness,” he said on Wednesday (8/26/2026).

This synergy among students, lecturers, alumni, and coaches is a key strength driving the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta contingent's journey toward PORSI JAWARA II 2026. More than just chasing the podium, this event serves as a space for students to sharpen their skills, build self-confidence, and carry the name of UIN Sunan Kalijaga through achievement at the national level.

With thorough preparation and an ever-growing fighting spirit, the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta contingent is ready to show that an Islamic-based university also possesses outstanding talent across sports, the arts, and academics. (humassk)
