The Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta held an Institutional Quality Improvement Workshop as part of efforts to strengthen academic governance and prepare for study program accreditation. The event is taking place October 28-30, 2026, at Hotel Platinum Adisucipto Yogyakarta.
The workshop was opened on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, by UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta Rector Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan, S.Ag., M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D. Also in attendance were FSH Dean Prof. Dr. Ali Sodiqin, M.Ag., FSH vice deans, study program heads and secretaries, teams from each study program, several lecturers and students, Head of the Bureau of Academic Administration, Student Affairs, and Cooperation (AAKK) Dr. H. Muhammad Lutfi Hamid, M.Ag., Head of Public Relations of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Drs. RTM. Maharani, M.M., and the Quality Assurance Institute (LPM) team of UIN Sunan Kalijaga.
In his remarks, FSH Dean Prof. Dr. Ali Sodiqin, M.Ag. said the workshop is intended to speed up the finalization of various academic quality improvement and accreditation documents. Several teams have been formed to meet the needs of each study program, including an accreditation team, a Faculty Strategic Plan (Renstra) team, a risk management team, a team for developing the Master of Law program, and a team preparing the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) in the Comparative Madhhab Study Program.
"All the teams will be working. For that reason, we have also invited the LPM team to assist. We have been provided with three facilitators from LPM," Ali Sodiqin said.
He explained that LPM's assistance is needed to ensure the document preparation process stays on target and on schedule. The workshop is also a way of showing appreciation for, and following up on, the Rector's direction on improving FSH's quality, especially in facing the international accreditation agenda.
According to Ali, the accreditation team has been working according to a set of planned stages. Through the workshop, the various documents required are expected to be finalized and completed on schedule.
Meanwhile, Rector Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan, S.Ag., M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D. praised FSH's step in holding a workshop with a clear agenda. In his view, the event is important to ensure that preparation of study program accreditation documents can be accelerated and completed well.
"Our preparation for ACQUIN, which has fallen somewhat behind the original schedule, can be sped up so that, within the new schedule set by LPM, we can complete the accreditation forms as well as possible to submit to ACQUIN," he said.
The Rector affirmed that strengthening accreditation is part of UIN Sunan Kalijaga's strategy for strengthening its reputation and institutional quality. He hopes all faculties and work units will keep coordinating so that quality improvement targets can be reached together.
According to Noorhaidi, UIN Sunan Kalijaga's achievements in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) need to be followed by stronger institutional quality, including completing accreditation at all levels of study programs.
"We must strengthen our footing, and one part of that is making sure accreditation at all levels is settled," he stressed.
He also said that strengthening university quality is not only about accreditation but also about developing research, scholarly publication, research downstreaming (hilirisasi), and educational innovation. UIN Sunan Kalijaga, he continued, keeps promoting stronger research performance through various schemes and publication incentives for the academic community.
In terms of developing study programs, the Rector also urged FSH to keep reading the needs of scholarship and developments in the world of work. In his view, study program development should be directed at meeting future needs while widening students' academic options.
He also stressed the importance of innovation in learning amid advances in digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI). Technological change, he said, has changed what the workplace needs, so universities must keep adjusting so that graduates have relevant competencies.
"We still have a lot of homework, and we will not stop innovating and striving (ikhtiar) to make this university excellent, leading, and recognized," he said.
The FSH UIN Sunan Kalijaga Institutional Quality Improvement Workshop runs for three days and involves faculty leaders, study programs, lecturers, students, and LPM facilitators. The event is a space for consolidation, in which various teams complete documents and quality improvement agendas while strengthening FSH's readiness for the accreditation process.
Through the event,
FSH UIN Sunan Kalijaga is committed to continuing to strengthen governance,
academic quality, research, and study program development. These efforts are
expected not only to support a successful accreditation process but also to
strengthen FSH's position as part of a UIN Sunan Kalijaga that keeps moving
toward becoming an excellent and competitive university. (humassk)
