Indonesia’s Religious Affairs Ministry and 11 Islamic Universities Secure Top Transparency Rating

JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has earned a third straight Informatif designation for public information transparency, while 11 state Islamic universities joined the top tier this year, marking a sharp nationwide rise in compliance with disclosure standards.

The recognition was announced at the 2025 Public Information Disclosure Awards on Monday, Dec. 15, organized by the Central Information Commission. The ministry scored 94.62, up from 94.52 in 2024, extending a run of top ratings it has held since 2023.

The award was accepted on behalf of Minister Nasaruddin Umar by Thobib Al Asyhar, head of the ministry’s Bureau of Public Relations and Public Communication, who said the result reinforced the government’s commitment to transparency and public accountability.

The 2025 assessment also highlighted rapid progress among state Islamic higher education institutions (PTKIN). Eleven universities received the Informatif status this year, up from five in 2024 — an increase of 120 percent. In total, 16 PTKIN advanced to the public review stage, with four rated Toward Informatif and one classified as Fairly Informatif. Nunik Purwanti, secretary of the Central Information Commission, said the evaluations were conducted through the Public Information Transparency Index, which measures legal compliance, public perception and performance in resolving information disputes. She noted that the number of public bodies assessed rose by 11 percent in 2025, reflecting growing awareness of transparency obligations across Indonesia’s public institutions.
