YOGYAKARTA — The Zakat Collection Unit (UPZ) of UIN
Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta distributed 275 aid packages to outsourced staff and
surrounding communities on 24–25 February 2025, reinforcing the university’s
commitment to social responsibility and inclusive campus development.
Beneficiaries included security personnel,
drivers, cleaning staff, and gardeners who support daily campus operations, as
well as nearby mosques and Qur’anic learning centers (TPA). The initiative
reflects the university’s effort to ensure that institutional growth remains
closely connected to community well-being.
According to UPZ advisor Maksudin, the program
aligns with the university’s broader development vision. “UPZ UIN Peduli Sesama
is a collective initiative that embodies our institutional spirit—Empowering
Knowledge, Shaping the Future—by ensuring that progress within the university
is shared with those who sustain it,” he said.
For the 2024–2029 period, UPZ has outlined four
priority programs: tuition assistance (UKT/SPP scholarships), social aid,
community empowerment, and competitive thesis scholarships. These programs are
designed not only to alleviate economic burdens but also to cultivate
independence and academic excellence among members of the university community.
Aziz Muslim, Chair of UPZ, encouraged faculty,
staff, and students to nurture a culture of giving. “A portion of what we gain
within this academic environment should be returned to support our own community,”
he stated.
This year’s distribution also involved student
recipients of scholarships from Badan Amil Zakat Nasional (BAZNAS), who
participated directly in the aid delivery process. Their involvement was
intended as character education—transforming students from beneficiaries into
active contributors within a cycle of social good.
The event was attended by Ali Sodik, Head of the
Bureau of General Administration and Finance, signaling institutional
leadership support for strengthening social engagement across campus.
Through initiatives such as this, UIN Sunan
Kalijaga underscores that academic excellence and social responsibility are
inseparable pillars of its institutional identity—ensuring that impact begins
at home while nurturing a culture of shared prosperity.
