The Pekan Olahraga, Seni, dan Ilmiah (PORSI JAWARA II, Sports, Arts, and Scientific Week) for State Islamic Religious Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN) across Java and Madura has officially begun. The opening of the event, which brings together students from 18 PTKIN institutions, took place at UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan on Wednesday night (9/9/2026).
The opening of PORSI JAWARA II was led directly by the Director General of Islamic Education at the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Amien Suyitno. The event marks the start of a series of sports, arts, and scientific competitions that will run over the following days.
For PTKIN students, particularly those from the Java and Madura region, PORSI JAWARA II serves as a space to bring together the diverse abilities that have developed within their respective campus environments. The competition not only brings students together to compete, but also opens space for encounters and the exchange of experiences between universities.
In his remarks, Prof. Amien Suyitno said that the diversity of student talent is one of the strengths of PTKIN institutions. Students, he said, have the opportunity to develop their abilities across a wide range of fields, not limited to academics alone.
"PTKIN institutions are multi-talented campuses, because talent within PTKIN is highly varied. Students are not only focused on and skilled in one field, but also have potential across many areas, from sports and the arts to scientific fields," Prof. Amien said.
According to him, this diversity needs to be nurtured as part of the process of shaping a well-rounded younger generation. For that reason, giving students space to compete and develop their potential is an important part of university life.
"From this diversity of talent, we hope to see the emergence of a younger generation that excels not only in a single skill, but also possesses creativity, character, competitiveness, and the ability to contribute across many fields," he continued.
Prof. Amien also reminded students to treat competition as a process for giving their best while upholding sportsmanship. Competition, he said, should never come at the expense of mutual respect among participants.
"Go ahead and compete, go ahead and show your best abilities. But remain both competitive and supportive. Don't let competition cost us our sense of brotherhood and sportsmanship," he said.
That message carries particular relevance amid the gathering of 18 PTKIN institutions at PORSI JAWARA II. Students arrive carrying the identity of their respective universities and face one another across various competition branches. Yet they also share the same educational space as PTKIN students.
According to Prof. Amien, PORSI JAWARA II is therefore not solely aimed at determining winners. The experience of taking part in the competition, building networks, and meeting students from other universities is also part of the process participants are meant to gain.
"This event is not just about finding champions. There is a process of learning, there is experience, there is fellowship, and there is brotherhood that we must build together. So make this PORSI JAWARA a moment to grow and to give your best," he said.
That spirit also forms the context for the presence of the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta contingent at PORSI JAWARA II. UIN Sunan Kalijaga students are competing in 23 sports, arts, and scientific branches alongside delegations from other PTKIN institutions.
This participation gives UIN Sunan Kalijaga students the opportunity to bring the abilities they have developed on campus into competition with fellow PTKIN students. At the same time, meeting participants from various universities opens up new experiences beyond their everyday academic environment.
PORSI JAWARA II will move into its series of competitions across various fields from September 10–13, 2026. The competition will bring together students with diverse backgrounds in ability and experience.
For participants, results in the arena will certainly be an important part of their efforts. But the process of taking part in the competition will also become part of the student experience they carry back to their respective campuses.
With that, PORSI JAWARA II 2026 has begun. The arena now becomes a space for PTKIN students to showcase their abilities, uphold sportsmanship, and broaden their experiences and encounters with fellow students. (humassk)
