Limitations are no obstacle to achievement when students are given the space, opportunity, and support to grow. That's reflected in the journey of Muhammad Agil Husein, the fastest top undergraduate graduate at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta's Fourth Commencement of the 2025/2026 Academic Year, held Thursday, August 13, 2026.
A graduate of the Da'wah Management Study Program at the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication (FDK), Agil earned a GPA of 3.94 and completed his studies in 3 years, 7 months, and 29 days. That achievement was supported by a number of opportunities he made the most of as a student, including scholarship programs.
Agil was a scholarship recipient with GNOTA in 2022, UIN Sunan Kalijaga's UPZ in 2023, and Bank Indonesia in both 2024 and 2025. For him, a scholarship was never just financial support; it was space to focus more deeply on developing his competencies.
"As a scholarship recipient, I had one real luxury: the freedom of time. I had the flexibility to direct my focus toward developing my abilities," he said.
As a Bank Indonesia scholarship recipient, Agil took part in mentoring through the GenBI community and earned a professional certification in Digital Marketing. He built on that opportunity through experience in media, marketing, and content production. He also won a short-film competition and stayed active in various activities and projects alongside faculty members.
According to Agil, student involvement in various projects is an important part of the learning process. Among other things, he took part in hajj-guide certification activities and faculty research projects.
"Students are often directly involved in important projects. Experiences like these are what sharpened my professionalism and the way I think outside the classroom," he said.
That experience also brought his field of Da'wah Management together with his interest in media and digital marketing. Agil went on to develop da'wah (Islamic outreach) content on Instagram and TikTok, using a visual and video-editing approach. His consistency even led to him being trusted as a source for three undergraduate thesis studies and one doctoral-level journal research project.
"Seeing my creative work bridge religious knowledge to the wider public, while also contributing to scholarly literature, is my greatest source of pride," he said.
For Agil, this experience is one example of how the integration-interconnection value that defines UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta can be put into practice in a student's own journey. The Da'wah Management knowledge he gained was never treated in isolation, it was brought together with knowledge of media, communication, and digital marketing.
"Here, I didn't just study religious knowledge, I was also taught how religious knowledge can be in dialogue with modern fields like media, communication, and digital marketing," he said.
He also considers the values of religious moderation and adaptability essential assets he gained during his studies, skills that helped him translate complex ideas into language that felt more grounded and relevant to the wider community.
He describes UIN Sunan Kalijaga as an "open canvas" that provides a moral and academic foundation while still giving students the freedom to shape their own future.
"UIN Sunan Kalijaga provides a strong framework of moral values and knowledge as its foundation, but it fully frees its students to paint their own path forward," he said.
Behind his achievement, Agil also credits his family as his main source of strength. His parents' prayers, blessing, and support were essential to him completing his studies as the fastest top graduate.
After graduating, Agil is committed to continuing to produce da'wah and motivational content on social media. He wants to bring messages of goodness that feel close to the everyday lives of young people.
To fellow UIN Sunan Kalijaga students, he offers this advice: be bold in seizing opportunities, and don't wait for the perfect conditions.
"Don't wait for things to be perfect before you start moving. Take the opportunities in front of you, and have the courage to produce your own work. Your college years are the most comfortable space to try out as many things as you can," he said.
Agil's journey shows that achievement doesn't come from academic ability alone. When scholarships, opportunities, trust, room to explore, and family support meet a genuine willingness to keep learning, limitations can turn into a door toward achievement. (Humas)
