LPM UIN Sunan Kalijaga Strengthens Quality Culture through Socialization of the 2026 SPMI and Quality System 2.0

UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta continues to strengthen its commitment to building a quality culture as the foundation for outstanding higher education. Through its Quality Assurance Institute (LPM), UIN Sunan Kalijaga held the Socialization of the 2026 Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI), along with the launch of the latest SPMI Document and the introduction of Quality System 2.0, on Wednesday (7/15/2026) in the Fourth-Floor Meeting Room of the Faculty of Medicine. The event was attended by faculty leaders, heads and secretaries of study programs, and quality assurance managers from various faculties and work units across UIN Sunan Kalijaga. This cross-unit participation reflects a shared commitment to building integrated and sustainable quality governance at the university level.

As mandated by Law Number 12 of 2012 on Higher Education, the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) is a mechanism independently developed by higher education institutions to ensure that all processes of education, research, and community service run in accordance with established standards and undergo continuous quality improvement. SPMI implementation is carried out through the PPEPP cycle (Standard Setting, Implementation, Evaluation, Control, and Improvement), which serves as the primary instrument for building a quality culture within each work unit.

The Chair of LPM UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Prof. Dwi Agustina Kurniawati, emphasized that SPMI is not merely a matter of fulfilling administrative documents or accreditation requirements, but functions as the institution's central “engine room” for quality management. She noted that changes to BAN-PT regulations concerning Institutional Accreditation (APT) and Study Program Accreditation (APS) require universities to continually adapt through a more responsive quality assurance system.

“PPEPP is not just documentation or routine procedure, it is a framework that serves as the reference point for the entire quality improvement process. That is why every preparation of accreditation forms and every program implementation must refer to the latest quality guidelines,” she stated.

Prof. Dwi Agustina also explained that, beginning this year, UIN Sunan Kalijaga is implementing a number of system enhancements, including annual updates to quality standards, the conduct of Management Review Meetings (RTM) at both the university and faculty levels, and changes to the Internal Quality Audit (AMI) mechanism, which now uses a score-based assessment system to make evaluations more objective and measurable.

On the same occasion, Dr. Kulsum Nur Hayati, Coordinator of the Center for Academic Quality Standards Development, presented the 2026 Quality Standards Document, which has been compiled to be more concise, adaptive to the latest policies, and easier for all work units to implement. In addition, LPM is currently developing Quality System 2.0, a digital platform designed to integrate the PPEPP process so that quality assurance implementation can be carried out more effectively, with full documentation, and can be easily monitored by all stakeholders.

The discussion was lively, with participants offering a range of input on the implementation of the quality system at the study program level, from the continuity of the PPEPP cycle and the alignment of indicators with BAN-PT standards, to the need to accommodate standards from various Independent Accreditation Institutions (LAM). In response, the LPM Chair stated that, beginning next year, the quality system will be developed without a blocking mechanism, allowing each study program to continue running its quality cycle independently, without dependence on other units. She also affirmed that all BAN-PT and LAM standards will be integrated into UIN Sunan Kalijaga's PPEPP system to more comprehensively support the achievement of top-tier accreditation.

In the closing session, Prof. Istiningsih, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Institutional Development, emphasized that heads and secretaries of study programs are the frontline in building a quality culture across UIN Sunan Kalijaga. She noted that a quality culture is realized not only through the preparation of documents and reports, but also through the strengthening of research, innovation in learning, and increased public trust in the quality of graduates and academic services provided by the university.

Through the launch of the 2026 SPMI Document and the development of Quality System 2.0, UIN Sunan Kalijaga is reinforcing its digital-based transformation of quality governance, involving all academic and support units. The system is expected to integrate the processes of standard setting, implementation, evaluation, control, and improvement more effectively and with comprehensive documentation. With the active involvement of university, faculty, and study program leadership, as well as supporting units, UIN Sunan Kalijaga continues to build a quality assurance ecosystem that is responsive to national regulations while enhancing the institution's competitiveness at both the national and international levels. This strong implementation of a quality culture stands as one of the foundations for UIN Sunan Kalijaga in producing high-quality graduates, strengthening research and innovation, and increasing public trust in excellent higher education services.
