Synergy Between Leadership and Board of Supervisors Strengthens the Strategic Direction of UIN Sunan Kalijaga's Development

The advancement of a university reflects the outcome of a shared, sustained effort maintained through ongoing evaluation, oversight, and well-directed decision-making. This spirit was evident in the Regular Meeting of the Board of Supervisors of the Public Service Agency (BLU) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, held on Friday (7/24/2026) in the Second-Floor Meeting Room of the PAU Building, with participation also via Zoom. Attended by the Rector, Vice Rectors, Deans, the Director of the Postgraduate Program, Heads of Technical Implementation Units, and Chairs of Working Teams, the forum served as a platform for university leadership to report on the progress of various strategic agendas, while aligning the institution's development direction together with the Board of Supervisors.

On this occasion, Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Prof. Dr. Noorhaidi Hasan, presented updates on a number of the university's priority programs. Construction of the access road to Campus II in Pajangan has entered its implementation phase, forming part of the development of UIN Sunan Kalijaga's future educational area. In the academic sphere, public interest in the Faculty of Medicine continues to show positive growth, accompanied by efforts to strengthen teaching quality through pedagogical training and a range of other professional development programs for lecturers.

The Rector also reported on the strengthening of international cooperation, including with TİKA of Turkey, which will establish a Turkish Corner and Turkish Language Room at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. The presence of both facilities represents a strategic step in expanding Turkish studies, strengthening academic diplomacy, and opening up broader space for international collaboration. At the same time, academic development has also been strengthened through the issuance of permits for several new study programs, including a Master's program in Library and Information Science, developed in response to societal needs and the ongoing evolution of the discipline.

Responding to this update, Chair of the BLU Board of Supervisors, Prof. Sahiron, expressed appreciation for UIN Sunan Kalijaga's various achievements, including its success in being named the top-ranked PTKIN in the THE Sustainability Impact Rankings and placing within the 601–800 band of the global rankings. He noted that these achievements need to be sustained through continuous performance improvement, supported by public communication capable of documenting and disseminating the university's various contributions to society.

The forum also underscored the importance of building a culture of continuous improvement across every aspect of institutional development. Each achievement, it was noted, should serve as a foundation for the next stage of innovation, ensuring that the strengthening of academic quality, governance, and institutional reputation continues on an ongoing basis.

On the same occasion, Board of Supervisors member Dwi Teguh emphasized the importance of expanding the contributions of UIN Sunan Kalijaga graduates across various strategic sectors, including government, as part of strengthening alumni's role in national development. A number of strategic points were also raised as part of UIN Sunan Kalijaga's continued efforts to advance and deliver a broader contribution to national development.

Meanwhile, Prof. Panut noted that the university's various achievements, spanning international rankings, scholarly publications, and community service, form a mutually reinforcing ecosystem in building the institution's reputation.

He also encouraged further integration of community service programs, including the Community Service Program (KKN), with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda. According to him, strengthening the connection between education, research, community service, and contributions to the SDGs will amplify impact while enhancing recognition of UIN Sunan Kalijaga's role at both the national and global levels.

Through this synergy, every strategic policy is intended not merely to achieve short-term targets, but to strengthen the institution's capacity to advance knowledge, expand its benefit to society, and build a future for UIN Sunan Kalijaga that is increasingly excellent and globally reputable.
