Bullying in schools can no longer be regarded as ordinary childhood mischief. Its effects can impact a child's self-confidence, mental health, and even their learning process. Driven by this concern, the Social Welfare Science (IKS) Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, together with the Bentang Sintang Team, held the “Stop Bully Movement: Early Bullying Prevention through Card Game Media” program at SDN 5 Sintang, using it as an educational tool to help students understand the importance of mutual respect from an early school age.
The program forms part of a broader community
service initiative developed by the Social Welfare Science Study Program,
carried out as part of the Community Service Program (KKN) in Sintang, West
Kalimantan. One of the students who implemented the program was Aulia Rasyid, a
2023-cohort student in the Social Welfare Science program, through the Stop
Bully Movement activity held at SDN 5 Sintang.
The card media used in the activity consists of
four categories: Situation Cards, Feeling Cards, Response Cards, and Reflection
Cards. These four categories were designed to help students recognize various
forms of bullying, understand the emotions that arise in particular situations,
determine appropriate responses, and reflect on actions they can take to help
prevent and break the cycle of bullying.
“Through a game-based approach, students don't just
receive information one-way; they're invited to discuss, interact, and
understand the issue of bullying through situations that closely resemble their
everyday lives. This method makes the educational process more enjoyable, while
also helping students understand the importance of creating friendships that
are safe, comfortable, and free from bullying,” Aulia explained.
Held on Tuesday (7/21/2026) and Wednesday
(7/23/2026), the activity was attended by a number of students from grades IV
and VI at SDN 5 Sintang. Seven facilitators were involved in supporting the
activity, guiding the card game, sparking interaction among students, and
helping them reflect on their understanding of bullying and how to prevent it.
Through this activity, the Stop Bully Movement is
hoped not to remain merely an educational event, but to serve as an early step
in fostering students' courage to recognize, prevent, and stop bullying from a
young age.
After all, breaking the cycle of bullying does
not always require grand gestures. Sometimes, change can begin with a simple
conversation, a moment of understanding, and the courage to choose not to hurt
one another.
The program also reflects the theme of UIN Sunan
Kalijaga's KKN Batch 120, “The Application of Knowledge and Community Service
Innovation for Sustainable Development.” Through this game-based educational
approach, students put knowledge into practice as a solution to social issues
within the community. The initiative contributes to the achievement of SDG 4
(Quality Education) by strengthening safe and inclusive learning environments,
as well as SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) through
violence-prevention education starting at school age.
Beyond that, the program affirms the role of
universities in shaping a younger generation that is empathetic, respectful of
difference, and capable of creating safer social spaces as a foundation for
building a sustainable society. (humassk)
