As part of its continued effort to strengthen halal certification in Indonesia, UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s Halal Center, in collaboration with Bank Indonesia (BI) DIY, launched the Halal Product Process Assistance (P3H) activation program on Thursday, June 19. The event took place at the Faculty of Medicine, UIN Sunan Kalijaga.
UIN Rector Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan and BI DIY Deputy Head Hermanto were present to open the program. “This partnership has significantly contributed to building a halal ecosystem in the region,” said Prof. Noorhaidi, citing the university’s halal food court being recognized as a Zona Khas by KNEKS in 2024.
He emphasized the importance of the halal label not merely as a formal requirement, but as a guarantee of clean, healthy, and safe food. “The halal label must go beyond formality—it must reflect hygiene and food safety,” he added.
Hermanto expressed appreciation for the longstanding partnership, which began in 2021. “This synergy has led to real progress in the halal ecosystem in DIY. P3H plays a key role in securing halal certification and must be empowered,” he said.
Imelda Fajriati, Head of the Halal Center, noted that since 2022, the program has helped issue over 45,000 halal certificates for around 20,000 to 25,000 MSMEs across several regions in DIY. She emphasized the importance of ongoing training to enhance the competence of halal facilitators, with BI DIY supporting four P3H training sessions in 2025 targeting 200 participants.
Concluding the event, Prof. Noorhaidi underlined the vital role of higher education institutions in supporting a trusted and sustainable national halal system. “Universities must continue to make a real impact in advancing Indonesia’s halal ecosystem,” he said. (humassk)
