PPID UIN Sunan Kalijaga Launches Ki Suka Menjawab, an AI-Based Information Service Inaugurated by the Chair of the Central Information Commission (PPID)

The Information and Documentation Management Officer (PPID) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta has developed Ki Suka Menjawab, a public information service based on artificial intelligence (AI) that makes it easier for the public to access the campus's official information. The innovation, developed together with students of the Master's Program in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, is part of efforts to improve public information disclosure that is responsive, inclusive, and accountable.

The innovation was introduced at the National Seminar on Public Information Disclosure, titled “AI-Based Public Information Services,” organized by the PPID of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta in the Theatrical Room of the Faculty of Medicine, 4th floor, on Thursday (10/15/2026).

The launch of Ki Suka Menjawab was marked by the striking of a gong by the Chair of the Central Information Commission. At the same time, Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan, together with Arman Fauzi, unveiled the barcode on the Ki Suka Menjawab mascot. The barcode can be scanned to access the AI-based public information service, an innovation of the UIN Sunan Kalijaga PPID.

Dr. Ali Sodiq, Head of the Bureau of General Administration and Finance (AUK) and chair of the organizing committee, said that developing Ki Suka Menjawab is one of the campus's efforts to use technological advances to improve public information services. The system draws on information available on the official UIN Sunan Kalijaga website so that the public can obtain information about the campus through a single AI-based service.

On the same occasion, Rector Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan welcomed the innovation. Before hundreds of participants from various institutions, including the central Ministry of Religious Affairs, 18 State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN), three regional governments, public and private universities, and internal units of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, he described the development of AI-based information services as part of the effort to build more open university governance while promoting public services that keep pace with technology.

“The use of AI can speed up and streamline services that deal directly with the public. However, AI is not for writing papers or answering assignments without adequate thinking, because that can lead us into the abyss of civilization. Technological progress must go hand in hand with the human ability to think logically, critically, and creatively," he explained.

On public information services, the Rector stressed that information disclosure is closely tied to an institution's integrity, honesty, and accountability.

“Openness correlates positively with integrity, honesty, and accountability. An institution with high integrity will keep its trust well through openness, so that everything it does can be held accountable,” he said.

He also linked this principle to the university's academic achievements, including its success in ranking second nationally in the THE World University Rankings (WUR) 2027.

Also present as keynote speaker, Chair of the Central Information Commission Fb. Fx Handoko Agung Saputro highlighted the challenges of information disclosure amid rapidly advancing technology. In his view, easy access to information does not automatically guarantee that the information is true. Misinformation, manipulation of facts, and buzzer activity are challenges that must be faced in the digital public sphere.

He also reminded participants that technology is not entirely neutral, because its use can be influenced by the interests of those who control the flow of information. In this situation, universities have a strategic role in ensuring that the development of science and technology continues to serve the public interest.

“Universities play an important role in directing the use of technology so that it truly meets human needs and promotes shared prosperity. They bring together experts and holders of knowledge who can help ensure that technological development benefits society rather than trapping people in it. For this reason, universities must be able to manage and direct technology so that it provides real benefits for life,” he said.

For this reason, he said, the use of AI in public information services must remain oriented toward strengthening the public's right to obtain accurate and accountable information.

In the technical presentation session, application developer Muhammad Hadli Alfurqon explained that Ki Suka Menjawab is designed to help the public access information about UIN Sunan Kalijaga through a conversational mechanism. The service focuses on campus-related information, with data sourced directly from official websites affiliated with UIN Sunan Kalijaga.

He, who is also a student in the Master's Program in Islamic Religious Education at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, explained that Ki Suka Menjawab uses state-of-the-art artificial intelligence technology from Anthropic, enabling it to give detailed answers. The system is designed to process user questions, search the available database, and present answers directly. Through this service, the public can access information about UIN Sunan Kalijaga more conveniently, without having to browse each page of the website manually.

Furqon explained that the service is designed to understand questions in several languages, including Indonesian, Arabic, and English. The system is also accessible 24 hours a day, uses a friendly communication style, and allows information to be updated through the server whenever new data becomes available.

The discussion of public information disclosure continued with presentations by Arman Fauzi, Chair of the Dispute Resolution Division of the Central Information Commission, and Joemarthine Chandra, Chair of the Strategy and Research Division. Moderated by Dr. Shaleh, Head of the Internal Audit Unit of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, the two reviewed various aspects of public information disclosure, including the dynamics and challenges of its implementation.

For the UIN Sunan Kalijaga PPID, developing this service is part of an effort to bring information disclosure closer to the public. By using technology that prioritizes accuracy, integrity, and accountability, public information services are expected to become one expression of transparent and responsible university governance.
