Easy access to public information is one of the keys to transparent and responsive university services. Driven by this need, Muhammad Hadli Al Furqon, a student in the Master's Program in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, developed Ki Suka Menjawab, an application based on artificial intelligence (AI) that is designed to help the public get information about the campus more easily and quickly.
The
innovation was introduced at the launch of Ki Suka Menjawab during the National
Seminar on Public Information Disclosure, titled "AI-Based Public
Information Services," organized by the Information and Documentation
Management Officer (PPID) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta in the Theatrical
Room of the Faculty of Medicine, 4th floor, on Thursday (10/15/2026). On the
occasion, Hadli was interviewed about the background of the application's
development, how it was built, and its potential to support public information
disclosure on campus.
The
arrival of Ki Suka Menjawab is one form of student contribution to driving the
transformation of university information services. Through an AI-based chatbot,
the public is expected to find the information they need more conveniently
while enjoying an interactive digital service experience.
According
to Hadli, Ki Suka Menjawab was developed to make it easier for the wider public
to access UIN Sunan Kalijaga information transparently. The application uses AI
technology from Anthropic and is designed to answer questions about the campus
in a way that is relevant, concise, and focused.
“I
created Ki Suka Menjawab so that people can get information about UIN Sunan
Kalijaga easily and quickly,” he said.
Ki
Suka Menjawab is relevant to strengthening the role of the UIN Sunan Kalijaga
PPID in providing public information services. Using an AI-based chatbot opens
opportunities to widen public access to campus information through a more
interactive digital channel.
With
proper development and integration, this technology has the potential to become
a supporting tool for PPID services, especially in answering common questions
and directing the public to the information they need. It can also improve the
efficiency of information services while strengthening the user experience of
accessing university information.
Even
so, using AI in public information services still needs to be accompanied by
the management of accurate information sources, regular data updates, and mechanisms
for verifying answers. This is important so that ease of access goes hand in
hand with the principles of openness, accuracy, and accountability of
information. For information requests that require special procedures, the
chatbot can be developed as an initial entry point that directs applicants to
the PPID service mechanism in accordance with the regulations.
Interestingly,
this innovation was born from a student of Islamic Religious Education rather
than an information technology discipline. For Hadli, one's academic background
should not stop a person from learning other fields and developing ideas that
benefit society.
He
believes that Islamic Religious Education students do not have to stay fixed on
conventional religious knowledge. His interest in technology led him to explore
the opportunities of using AI as part of educational innovation and public
service.
The
journey of developing Ki Suka Menjawab was not without challenges. Without a
foundation in information technology, Hadli had to learn a range of skills from
scratch, from programming and Python to HTML. This process was an important
part of turning an idea that had once been only a concept into reality.
“I
had to learn from zero to create the application I wanted and imagined could
benefit many people,” he said.
During
development, Hadli also worked to bring the application into a server
environment together with the PPID. This step is part of an effort to connect
student innovation with the real needs of campus information services.
Hadli
hopes Ki Suka Menjawab can be used to its fullest and continue to be developed
according to user needs. Looking ahead, he wants to offer more personalized
services, including a chatbot integrated with student accounts to support
complaints and service needs.
He
also envisions developing a voice chat service with a three-dimensional (3D)
character, so that digital interaction feels more real and is easy to use.
For
UIN Sunan Kalijaga, this idea shows the potential for developing digital
services that focus not only on using the latest technology but also on ease of
access and service quality for the academic community and the wider public.
Hadli
believes the academic environment at UIN Sunan Kalijaga also provides room for
cross-disciplinary ideas to grow. In his view, support for new ideas is an
important factor in ensuring that innovation does not stop at the idea stage
but can be turned into useful solutions.
Ki
Suka Menjawab is an example of how student initiatives can contribute to
strengthening university services. With continued development and collaboration
with information service managers, this AI-based innovation has the opportunity
to become part of UIN Sunan Kalijaga's efforts to widen access to public
information while building services that are increasingly open, adaptive, and
responsive to community needs. (humassk)
